The whole Watchmen legal mess has been resolved.

The battle over Watchmen is now all but over. 20th Century Fox and Warner Bros. have reached an agreement that will be presented to Judge Gary Feess on Friday morning. While details have not been released yet, they reportedly involve "a sizable cash payment to Fox and a percentage of the film's box office."

Even though it's over now, this litigation is going to have a lasting effect on Watchmen and Warner Bros. The settlement will hurt the film's profits considerably since Warner Bros. has to pay a large sum to Fox after the film opens on March 6.

It's safe to say that Watchmen could realistically reach the $100 million mark. Yet with the shadow of this litigation looming over it as well as its reported budget of more than $100 million that kind of box office haul won't be nearly enough.

The film's biggest detriment is the fact that it doesn't boast any major stars. Patrick Wilson, Billy Crudup, Jackie Earle Haley and Carla Gugino are all character actors with little or no box office clout.
